Jazz Guitar Ensemble
Jazz guitar ensemble consists of 5 or more electric guitars plus rhythm section. Entry to the ensemble is by audition and/or instructor permission. Participation in jazz guitar ensemble will give guitarists the opportunity to gain experience performing as part of a section and to develop general ensemble participation skills like blending, following a conductor, and following a section leader. Students will become familiar with small jazz ensemble style repertoire typically played by a jazz big band or horn band. There will also be an emphasis on sight-reading skills, with particular attention to sight-reading problems specific to guitarists. The ensemble performs at least once per semester, and is directed by Tom Lippincott.
